Fifteen years ago, the U.S. Men’s National Team (MNT) won 1-0 against Peru’s Los Incas in the 2000 CONCACAF Gold Cup in Miami, Florida. The two teams meet for the first time since then in a friendly soccer match on Friday, Sept. 4. MNT’s head coach Jurgen Klinsmann added Birmingham City’s defender Jonathan Spector to his roster of 24 players.
Friday’s match will be played at the Robert F. Kennedy Memorial stadium in Washington, D.C. at 7 p.m. EST. Ticket prices range from $32 - $250 and can be purchased at USSoccer.Com. Fans can watch the match on Fox Sports 1, Uni Mas, and Univision Desportes. @UsSoccer will tweet live updates via Twitter on game day.
MNT’s team roster includes three goalkeepers, six midfielders, ten defenders, and five forwards. The team is currently training at camp in Washington, D.C. Striker Aron Johannsson says that competition between the players to be paired in the starting lineup for the match is fierce.
“It’s the National Team. Every time you come to camp, it’s going to be difficult to get in the starting 11. We have good players,” said Johannsson to USSoccer.Com. “On the other hand it’s nice as well because we have some good competition and everybody is fighting every training to prove to the coach they should be playing.”
