The 2015 MTV VMAs have inspired a number of people to try emulating the makeups and hairstyles of their favorite music icons. Sporting various unique looks in the red carpet, fans and followers of Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Britney Spears and other musicians are excitedly looking for ways to try and get the same looks. As more and more people try to become more daring in their makeups, it appears that an increasing number of rules are surfacing day after day. While being aware of these rules will undoubtedly help the public dodge ridicule, a number of these guidelines are now passé.
It has been well known that applying heavy makeup on both the eyes and lips is a no-no. However, Buzz Feed Life reveals that such practice is no longer the norm. Pointing out an example lifted from an Instagram account, the report showed that putting on heavy makeup in the eyes and lips could be pulled off if done right. Another out-of-date rule is the guideline against blue eyeshadow. While this used to be mocked as something belonging to the 80s, some people actually manage to make it look cool and charming.
Meanwhile, Bustle shares yet another rule that has been broken in today's generation - and that pertains to the grooming of eyebrows. With fashion models and actresses such as Cara Delevingne, the bushy eyebrow era has started the moment they walked down the runway. Another eye makeup tip that had been known to be against the experts' advice is the use of "spider lashes." As per makeup artists' expertise, the correct way to showcase one's lashes is by making these look long and curly individually. However, it appears that the 1960s spider lashes are now making a comeback and women who aim at a "smoldering" look are going crazy over it.
Another trend that's making a comeback and breaking stereotypes is the scarf. Initially believed to be worn only by "hippie" people or those going for the bohemian look, scarves became a fashion statement when these pieces of cloth started getting showcased in fashion shows, according to Allure. Nowadays, women (or men) aiming to upgrade their looks and add sophistication to their outfits use scarves to achieve their desired vibe. Surprisingly, gray hair is becoming all the rage these days. Presumably started by Kylie Jenner's widely popular Instagram post that showed off her newly died gray hair, social media fans of the "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" star are now following suit.
