Katherine Heigl is set to make a comeback in the small screen.

After exiting ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ Heigl returned to TV after several attempts in theaters. One of her first efforts was in NBC’s 'State of Affairs,' in which she served as executive producer along with her mother Nancy Heigl.

However, with the NBC series getting cancelled, the actress has signed on to a CBS drama titled ‘Doubt’ in which she will replace KaDee Strickland.

The series will follow the character Sadie Ellis (Heigl), “a female lawyer who becomes romantically involved with one of her clients (who may or may not be guilty of a brutal crime).”

The show had initially set Teddy Sears opposite Strickland, but the ‘Masters of Sex’ actor is reportedly out of the role. Returning cast members include Dreama Walker, Laverne Cox, Dule Hill, Elliott Gould, and Kobi Libii.

Interestingly, such TV program is being run by ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ writers Joan Rater and Tony Phelan.

Heigl had a rickety history with several of the hospital drama’s scribes as well as ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ showrunner Shonda Rhimes as the 36-year-old actress famously pulled out her name from the 2008 Emmy race because she believed that she was not “given the material… to warrant a nomination.”

Her statement was recognized as a direct offense towards the writers on the show, and it seemed that Rhimes took the remark as a huge slam, given her comments on the actress.

Nonetheless, Heigl had sparked up speculations of a possible appearance on ‘Grey’s Anatomy' to reprise her role as Dr. Izzie Stevens when she admitted that she was struggling to imagine Seattle Grace without Dr. Derek Shephard, played Patrick Dempsey.

"I just can't even imagine the show without McDreamy," Heigl said to Entertainment Tonight. "I just can't! It's so hard to picture."

While Dempsey’s popular character was killed off in an episode last April, Heigl’s Izzie character was simply written off after the actress spent six seasons with the ABC drama series.

After opening up about her co-star’s departure from the program, rumors have surfaced that Heigl is planning to make a special appearance in an episode for season 12. However, it seems that the mother-of-two has no plans of visiting the operating room once more.

"There's not. I'm sorry," the actress said when asked about the rumors of her return to ‘Grey’s Anatomy.’ "I think that's — I don't know how to answer that.”

Moreover, she now had praises for the drama series and its impact on the landscape of popular culture.

"[It] was just an incredible experience for me. It changed the course of my life and career and I couldn't be more grateful," she shared. "I just hope it goes for as long as they all want it to."
