A Cup of Water International, a Korean non-profit organization that focuses on sharing the gospel and providing clean water to various people groups around the world, recently visited Guatemala, specifically the Ki'che' people, from June 16 to 29. During this recent trip, the team was able to continue the process of installing a water system to provide clean water to the villagers, as well as engage more directly in evangelism.
A Cup of Water International has been installing a water system that consists of spring water being pumped up through pipes to the villagers at the top of the mountain.
Most of the Ki'che' people, who live in a mountainous region in Guatemala, drink from dirty water sources in the mountain, said missionary Daniel Kwon. During a previous trip to this village, Kwon said the team installed what they called a "spring box" to protect the mountain's spring water. This time, the team installed pipes that would be able to bring the clean spring water up to the top of the mountain. The work that's left, Kwon said, is creating a water tank to store that water once the pump pushes the water up through the pipes.
"Please pray that we'll be able to provide clean water to the Ki'che' people and share the gospel with them as well," Kwon said in his mission report.
Kwon and the team was also able to share the gospel to many villagers, as they visited homes door to door to share the gospel. They also shared the gospel to children playing soccer in the village and even in the village bar.
"Everyone listened joyfully to the message of the gospel," Kwon shared. "About 100 people committed their lives to Jesus and received Him during our trip."
The team was also able to host a VBS at one of the schools in the village, in which the whole student body participated. Students participated in small group Bible studies, watched the Jesus film, and even danced along to worship music alongside the village mayor, who is also a pastor.
"It was moving to be able to share God's Word so freely in a public school," Kwon said. "I pray that only His name would be lifted high in all the world."
A Cup of Water International has previously visited villages in Nicaragua, Kenya, Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sudan, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Mexico, and numerous other countries to help provide clean water, create awareness on hygiene, and share the gospel to the villagers.
