Ronda Rousey, the Women’s Bantamweight title holder believes that she can “beat anyone on this planet,” under certain circumstances. The UFC champion was asked by a fan if she could beat Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a ruleless fight on Reddit AMA on Monday, Aug. 10.
“In a no rules fight, I believe I can beat anyone on this planet. Boxing is a sweet science with strict rules that I respect very much and aspire every day to improve at. But you said ruleless fight, and that's my honest answer,” said 28-year-old Rousey.
Rousey said that Mayweather “is one of the best boxers of all time” and that he could definitely beat her in a boxing match. She clarified to the fan that she does not get into matches, but instead fights for a living.
Rousey, who knocked out Bethe Correia in 36 seconds at a UFC Fight in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday, Aug. 1 stands at 5’7” and weighs 135 lbs. She is an Olympic medalist and has a 4th degree black belt in Judo.
Famous for her physical strength and muscular body figure, Rousey shared that she had her moments of weakness. While she proudly defends her body image now, in the past, she used to struggle with bulimia. During her time in the Olympics, she binged, purged, and starved herself in order to maintain her weight.
“It feels very liberating to free of the guilt that used to come with every meal. And I feel like I have so much extra space in my brain now that I'm not constantly thinking about the next meal and trying to eat as much as possible every day while still losing weight,” said Rousey. “I feel amazing. I (think) I look amazing.”
Rowdy, who was coping with her emotions, stress, and family history (her father committed suicide when she was eight years old) won the Olympics in 2008 and took a year off to celebrate. She quickly fell into using Vicodin, marijuana, cigarettes, and alcohol. She became a bartender after using her earnings. Flash forward to her first fight in the MMA, it gave her “a level of joy” that she “had never experienced before.”
When Rousey was a child, she had a speech impediment called Childhood Apraxia of Speech. She said that she had a speech therapist who was “super cool.” She said that any child struggling with speech can overcome it with “hard work regardless of how insurmountable the odds seem.” She said that the best thing about her recovery was that she was “never allowed to feel inferior.”
The blonde fighter was spotted photos with fans at Walmart in Kingsville, Texas on Wednesday, Aug. 12. Rowdy was wearing a black loose fitting tank top, grey sweat pants, and white flip flops. She wore her long hair down, in a casual side part. Several fans took to Instagram to post their photos of her in the Walmart aisles and in the parking lot.
