When people think of the word "diva," they associate it women of power or talent, mostly in the field of music. Throughout the years, people have seen it attached to the names of Tina Turner, Janis Joplin, Cher, Madonna, Whitney Houston, and Celine Dion. Nowadays, they are embodied by Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, and of course - Beyonce.
As she graced the cover of Vogue this September, the fashion powerhouse honored not only the diva's musical prowess, but also her personal style, elegance, and appeal.
"Her appropriation and assemblage are based on the understanding that a mass audience is a mass of niche audiences. Each has its own history, with its own desires, and she empowers them all," the article heaped praises on her. "In an age when roles and styles morph as quickly as computer images, she's a shape-shifting virtuoso. She can evoke Rita Hayworth or Naomi Campbell, flappers and B-girls."
They called her a "powerhouse" since she can sneer, out-strut and stare down "any man in the film frame," and "the most powerful thing about her persona is the unabashed pleasure she takes in her own body: its beauty, its power, its versatility."
Beyonce has won the admiration also of noted fashion designers, including Stella McCartney, Riccardo Tisci, and Marc Jacobs.
"Her appeal crosses art forms, genders, and generations," said McCartney. "She's the whole package: primal, rare, delicate, beautiful, and powerful."
Adds Tisci: "There is a magnetic presence to her."
For Jacobs, what attracts him most to Beyonce is her overall personality. Unlike many of her counterparts, she is very likable and easy to deal with. "The word diva is used for so many female performers, and it often means they have reputations for being difficult, but she exudes charm and a lovable quality," he said.
In the musical front, Beyonce has actually been very quiet for the past several years, but that does not mean audiences are tired of hearing her sing, or artists aren't scrambling over each other trying to do collaboration with her.
According to Billboard, artists such as Future, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, and Mike Will Made-It have all dropped hints of doing something with Beyonce. Future said in a radio interview that he has been at Jay Z's "crib," "actually working with Bey'."
On the other hand, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony's Bizzy Bone proudly shared on Instagram that "Beyoncé wanna work with the band." Mike Will Made It meanwhile, has "already been in these studio working for Beyoncé."
