Former wrestler turned actor Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was pretty overwhelmed to see how fans reacted to news that he will be appearing in a "Baywatch" movie together with former Disney star Zac Efron, but he said that people will only get more excited to see the film when they find out who they cast as the female lifeguards.
On his Instagram account @therock, Johnson posted a photo of himself beside Efron. "Cool to see the INSANE global reaction to our announcement yesterday for Zac Efron to co-star with me in BAYWATCH," he wrote.
Johnson made a lot of people laugh when he wrote that Efron is "clearly unattractive," because nothing could be further from the truth. But he also added that the "High School Musical" actor is "a great dude who's ready to make something epic."
"BAYWATCH is the most successful TV property of all time, so I'm fired up to produce it along with my long time producing partner Beau Flynn @flynnpictureco and legendary Ivan Reitman. Director Seth Gordon ('Horrible Bosses,' 'Identity Thief') has a dope vision and is ready to roll," he added. "Over the past few years I've taken careful steps with this franchise cause we want to do it right - big, fun, global, sexy mixed in with "This is my beach" kind of RATED R comedy. We'll start shooting at the top of 2016 and one more thing.. just wait 'til you see who we cast for our girls...."
In response to Johnson's social media post, Efron replied that he is "so stoked" to do the movie and jokingly added, "baby oil for 2 plz."
In an interview with Reuters while he was promoting his new movie "We Are Your Friends," Efron said that their movie, which will start production early next year will be far different from the original "Baywatch" television series, which catapulted its stars Pamela Anderson and David Hasselhoff into fame.
"I don't think it's going to be much like the old 'Baywatch' to be honest," Efron said about their movie. "I think we're going to kind of reinvent it in a big way, and he (Johnson) has big plans for it. I know he's very ambitious."
"Baywatch" is all about a group of lifeguards who patrol the beaches of Los Angeles County, California. It explored not only their work lives but also their interpersonal relationships, and they dealt with issues ranging from shark attacks, serial killers, and even nuclear bombs.
