After three seasons of ups and downs when it comes to admitting their interest in each other, Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Felicity (Emily Rickards) had finally gotten together and had driven off into the sunset in the season 3 finale.
However, ‘Arrow’ season four will reportedly bring on a number of new issues for the couple and will put their relationship to the test as Oliver returns to Starling City.
Going back into the city could become the start of many obstacles to come that will supposedly put a strain on their relationship.
“We really wanted to explore the ups and downs of a traditional TV relationship, like we've established with Oliver and Felicity, and pretty much throw everything at it that we can and see if they'll make it through,” executive producer Wendy Mericle told TV Guide.
Meanwhile, Elysia Rotaru has joined ‘Arrow’ season four as a new love interest for Oliver.
However, before fans get too disappointed, Rotaru will be shown in flashback scenes as a special someone from Oliver’s past, although details on her character are yet to be divulged.
“Oliver is gonna have a love interest in the past that will serve as a parallel or potentially a contrast to his love affair with Felicity in the present,” executive producer Marc Guggenheim told Entertainment Weekly.
A new villain, Neil McDonough’s Damien Darhk, will also terrorize Starling City, and Team Arrow will once again call for Oliver's help. Speculations claim that Oliver's sister Thea will also catch herself in trouble with this new antagonist, forcing Oliver to return as the Green Arrow.
In the ‘Arrow’ season 4 premiere episode, fans might also get to see Sara Lance, also known as White Canary. Although her appearance on the first episode has not yet been confirmed, Guggenheim previously mentioned that White Canary will be playing a key role in the first few episodes of the upcoming season.
Meanwhile, actor John Barrowman, who takes on the role Malcolm Merlyn and now the new Ra's al Ghul, assured fans that the premiere episode of the fourth season will be intense.
"Bring your tissues, bring everything..." said Barrowman told TVLine. “It's one of those episodes where, when you're watching, you're gonna go, 'What?!?!'"
‘Arrow’ season four has been set to premiere on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
