Zac Efron officially joined the cast of ‘Baywatch’ on Monday, Aug. 10. Co-star Dwayne Johnson revealed the big news to fans via Twitter.
“BIG NEWS: Welcoming my dude @ZacEfron to #BAYWATCH. Our movie will be big, fun and RATED R.. Like me when I drink,” tweeted Johnson on Monday.
“The story centers on a by-the-book and very serious lifeguard (Johnson) who is forced to team up with a young rule-flouting hothead (Efron) in order to save their beach from environmental destruction at the hands of an oil tycoon,” reported THR on Monday.
“So stoked brother - baby oil for 2 plz,” responded Efron to Johnson’s tweet.
‘Baywatch’ was an action drama series in the 1990s, about lifeguards who save peoples’ lives in Los Angeles County beaches. Actors David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson were famous for their roles on the show.
The series’ plot included the lifeguards braving through earthquakes, shark attacks, serial killers, and nuclear bombs. The lifeguards also saved beach goers from drowning.
The series was also famous for its slow motion shots of lifeguards running on the sand across the beach.
