Actor and stunt performer Steve-O was jailed after protesting Seaworld theme park in Hollywood, California on Sunday, Aug. 9. Steve-O, whose real name is Stephen Glover climbed atop a 100-ft. crane to make his point. He performed the stunts, while recording it for his fans. The videos were uploaded to his Facebook page.
Steve-O promoted the live stream event on Saturday on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. He posted a photo of himself holding up an inflatable killer whale and told fans that he would be doing something dangerous that would land him in a lot of trouble.
“This is Shammy. We're going to do a big dangerous stunt in Los Angeles tomorrow that will probably get me in a lot of trouble, and you can watch it happen via a live stream, right here on Facebook, starting at exactly 7pm PST. See you then... #yeahdude,” wrote Steve-O on Sunday, Aug. 9.
Steve-O posted a total of three videos on Facebook. Each video had over 3 million views, with the final one reaching 11 million views. He began his journey up the crane with a couple of buddies. He showed fans that he had a bluetooth, wireless mic, stunt pack, and multiple cameras.
Steve-O ran down the street, climbed over a green fence and inched his way up the crane in a construction zone. He was seen wearing a black tee-shirt. The shirt read “#Blackfish,” with a picture of a killer whale. He said that he practiced the stunt two times on Saturday.
He climbed up the crane using one hand, while holding up a camera with the other. After getting up to a considerable height, Steve-O looked down and after hearing sirens he said, “we definitely have their attention.” He described the trek up the crane as “really creepy.”
He was excited to see the view and the Hollywood sign behind him. At the pinnacle, Steve-O inflated his killer whale with a battery operated air pump. He had painted the words “Seaworld Sucks” onto the whale. Steve-O set off fireworks and climbed down the crane before 9 p.m. on Sunday.
LAPD Lt. Michael Ling told the Los Angeles Times that Steve-O was "arrested and is expected to be booked on suspicion of trespassing, setting a firework without a permit, and conspiracy to commit a crime.” Steve-O was bailed out of a Hollywood police station on Monday, Aug. 10.
Steve-O said that he performed the stunt to protest Seaworld, after watching the 2013 documentary ‘Blackfish.’
