Bill Murray answers to the ‘Ghostbusters’ call once more as the actor has been announced to make a special appearance in the upcoming reboot, a source close to the production confirmed to Entertainment Weekly.
Other news sites such as Variety, the Hollywood Reporter and Deadline have also reported that Murray will take on an unspecified role in Paul Feig-directed remake.
However, Birth.Movies.Death claims that the 64-year-old actor will take on the role of Martin Heiss, also known as a expert supernatural debunker who resist the new evil-fighting quartet.
Moreover, photographs of the actor have already surfaced online after arriving in Boston for the alleged filming of his scenes.
Murray took on the role of Dr. Peter Venkman in the original ‘Ghostbusters’ in 1984 as well as in ‘Ghostbusters II’ in 1989, but has long been unwilling to yield to the idea of starring in a third installment.
“It’s really hard to recreate something that was so beautiful, so wonderful,” the actor said in an interview last year.
In addition, Murray also mentioned in his interview with David Letterman in 2012 that the feeble performance of ‘Ghostbusters II’ had persuaded him to stay away from future installments. He even mentioned about the script he had seen for a proposed follow-up film, describing it as weak.
Nonetheless, Murray publicly praised the appointment of Feig, who also worked on ‘Bridesmaids,’ as director of the new ‘Ghostbusters’ film and even suggested several actors who seem fitting for the roles.
Earlier this year, Feig had previously shared about taking inspiration from his favorite zombie apocalypse TV series, AMC’s ‘The Walking Dead.’
Despite being centered on the paranormal, ‘Ghostbusters’ has been originally recognized as a comedy classic. Therefore, this leaves plenty of space for Feig to slip in scary scenes that can offer a certain level of horror to the upcoming reboot.
The ‘Freaks and Geeks’ director also mentioned his goal of coming up with a blockbuster film that is funny and scary at the same time.
Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones are already set to play the new Ghostbusters team, with ‘Thor’ actor Chris Hemsworth portraying the team’s secretary.
In addition, Murray will be joined by Dan Aykroyd, who previously starred as Ray Stantz in the franchise. Last month, it was revealed that Aykroyd had already filmed a scene alongside Wiig.
The third surviving member of the original Ghostbusters team, Ernie Hudson (Winston Zeddemore), is unlikely to return after originally referring to the prospect of an all-female cast as a “bad idea,’ although he later on retracted his words.
Harold Ramis, who took on the role Egon Spengler, passed away in February 2014.
The upcoming ‘Ghostbusters’ remake, which is currently in their filming phase, is due for an official premiere on July 15 next year.
