David Bradley has announced his return to HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’ as the devious and cunning Walder Frey.
According to an interview with Zap2it, Bradley revealed at the 2015 Television Critics Association summer press tour that he is set to make his comeback as the Head of the Freys on the hit fantasy drama series.
However, the 73-year-old actor has kept mum on which episodes his character will show up once again.
"He will be coming back, but I can't say when," Bradley said about his character's imminent return. "I can't really say because things are in a delicate situation."
At present, ‘Game of Thrones’ is filming its sixth season, and HBO programming president Michael Lombardo announced at the 2015 TCA summer press tour last week that showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss is expected to finish the HBO series after eight seasons.
If Walder Frey does not return for ‘Game of Thrones’ season six, which is set to premiere next year, the character could make his comeback in the seventh or in the final season.
Bradley, who had been at the 2015 TCA summer press tour to promote his FX vampire horror series ‘The Strain,’ previously appeared in three episodes of the HBO series.
The British actor was last seen in the ‘Game of Thrones’ season 3 finale, titled ‘Mhysa.’ However, he can be most remembered during the second-to-the-last episode of the same season, titled ‘The Rains of Castamere,’ in which he was revealed to have been responsible for the killings of Robb Stark (Richard Madden), Talisa Stark (Oona Chaplin) Catelyn Stark (Michelle Fairley) and many of the Stark bannermen.
Despite Walder Frey becoming one of the most disliked characters on the series, Bradley told the website that he is eager and thrilled to reprise his role.
"I do look forward to it, because I do love playing someone so irredeemable," he explained. "I'm afraid he makes me laugh because he's so appalling that there's a kind of dark humor in there somewhere."
In addition to news of future episodes, author George R.R. Martin admitted that he has only recently came up with a "great twist" that will surely "drive readers crazy", but he does not want to simply put it anywhere in the books, especially with the fact that it will involve more than one character.
"It's easy to do things that are shocking or unexpected, but they have to grow out of characters. They have to grow out of situations,” the ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ author explained. “Otherwise, it's just being shocking for being shocking. But this is something that seems very organic and natural, and I could see how it would happen.”
He also shared that, while the said twist will be featured in the sixth book, it will not be a storyline that HBO could incorporate into the TV series due to the fact that the network has already unknowingly made some changes to the small-screen adaptation with the characters involved.
For all other speculations, fans can look forward to ‘Game of Thrones’ season 6 that will make its official premiere on HBO in April next year.
