As ‘Homeland’ season five is set for an official premiere in October, the hit series’ producers recently dropped hints on the possibly storylines for the show’s main characters- Carrie Mathison and Saul Berenson.
As already known about the fifth season of ‘Homeland,’ the story will take place three years after the events that happened in 2014.
Estranged from the CIA, the show's central character, played by award-winning actress Claire Danes, decides to live in seclusion in Berlin, Germany. As pointed out by producer Alex Gansa, the new location is a "center for the surveillance refuseniks."
“Carrie is out of the intelligence business when the season starts and she finds herself in Berlin. It's a center for dissidence,” Gansa explained. “That's where hacktivists go because German privacy laws are so strict. It's hard to have surveillance on people there.
Currently filming at the famous Babelsberg Studio, recognized as the home base of Nazi propaganda leader Joseph Goebbels during the World War II, Gansa also discussed the new location that provides a fresh backdrop for production.
The showrunner states that, due to the fact that Germany is close to Russia and also offers recruitment opportunities for the Syrian Islamic state, the new setting has been deemed ready for development.
Instead of her typical interest in tracking down terrorists, ‘Homeland’ season five follows Carrie as she places herself as chief of security alongside a German industrialist and philanthropist that "hopes to make the world a better place."
As she becomes more confident in her ability to develop relationships, Carrie can also be expected to set her sight on a new love interest and will not involve any trace of black-ops agent Peter Quinn.
For the first time in ‘Homeland’ history, viewers will get to have a glimpse of the former CIA agent in an entirely domestic role with radically different obligations at home and at work.
Looking into Carrie’s new career, this erratic jump becomes a talking point among her former colleagues in the U.S.
With her mentor and friend Saul being assigned once again as the director of the CIA, he believes Carrie’s tasks are considerably in opposition to her former values. By employing herself for a radical individual rather than in a larger agency, Gansa states that her character is being deemed as a traitor to her country.
