America's favorite freckled redhead teenager Archie and his gang Jughead, Betty, Veronica, Reggie, and the rest will be singing their hearts out in Broadway soon.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Archie Comics will be teaming up with Funny or Die and writer-director Adam McKay to create an "Archie" stage musical, which is based on the long-running comic book franchise and its characters.

McKay of "Anchorman" and "Talleda Nights" fame will be writing the book for the show. As for the other creative team and the schedule of performances, no details have been provided yet and will be announced at a later date.

"Archie represents a bygone era of America. And like all bygone eras, there are elements we miss and elements that should be bygone," McKay said in the announcement. "This will be a musical that deals with both those realities in a bright, colorful and slightly demented way."

As for Archie Comics CEO and Publisher Jon Goldwater, he is pretty excited to take Archie and the gang's story to a whole new level.

"We couldn't be more excited to partner with Adam McKay and Funny or Die to finally bring Archie to the stage. We've always thought that Archie was destined to be a big Broadway star - and now that moment has come!" he said. "I've long admired Adam's work and the pairing of Archie's world with his brilliant humor and sensibility is the perfect fit. We look forward to developing this project together with this incredible team."

Archie first made his appearance together with Betty Cooper in Pep Comics #22 on December 22, 1941. People loved the wholesome all-American Archibald "Chick" Andrews with his love triangle woes so much so that his comic books are still selling really well up to this day.

Archie Comics has a lot of interesting characters. Aside from the clumsy yet lovable Archie, they have his best friend Jughead, who is known for always sporting his crown headgear. Jughead has an extremely large appetite but he never gets fat, and he always serves as Archie's problem solver and support system.

Archie has two great loves - Betty and Veronica Lodge. Betty is the all-American girl who is smart and does well in sports. She has a kind heart and is crazy over Archie, although she always plays second fiddle to her best friend Veronica, nicknamed Ronnie, a wealthy heiress who loves to go shopping and has Archie wrapped around her little finger. Then there's the resident trouble maker Reggie, who is very vain and loves to outdo Archie at every turn.
