Another showbiz couple has made their split public- Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy. Both ‘Muppets’ characters announced the news in joint statements on Facebook, admitting that the decision was a difficult one and that the pair had to go through “thoughtful consideration and considerable squabbling”.
While Piggy seemed shy in revealing their split, Kermit was keen to clarify that it was his partner who decided to call it quits.
“Miss Piggy made the difficult decision to terminate our romantic relationship. We will continue to work together on television (“The Muppets”/Tuesdays 8pm this fall on ABC) and in all media now known or hereafter devised, in perpetuity, throughout the universe," the couple's Facebook post stated.
No other details were divulged, including the reason behind the split or possible circumstances that could have caused the breakup.
“Our personal lives are now distinct and separate, and we will be seeing other people, pigs, frogs, et al. This is our only comment on this private matter. Thank you for your understanding,” the post further stated.
The two appeared together at a Television Critics Association panel Tuesday, where the pair spoke up about their relationship woes.
"It can be tough to work with your ex," Kermit said, "especially if your ex is a pig."
"It's good publicity," Miss Piggy responded. "I'm glad we're broken up. This is going to be great for moi's stardom.”
The breakup comes about as ABC prepares to unveil a new Muppet show.
ABC’s fresh revival of the ‘Muppets,’ which is set for a premiere in September, will follow the story of the well-loved characters, particularly the behind-the-scenes happenings of Miss Piggy’s new late-night show using a mockumentary approach, as reported by Variety.
The Muppets, widely known as a collection of puppet characters created by Jim Henson in the 1950s and owned by Walt Disney Co, have turned into a significant component of American pop culture.
In the variety TV series The Muppets aired in the 1970s, Kermit would take charge of the theatrical group of mischievous characters as Miss Piggy, using her karate chops, yearned for the spotlight.
For the upcoming reboot, Kermit will reportedly serve as executive producer on Miss Piggy’s talk show, which is expected to feature celebrity guests, such as Reese Witherspoon.
