While majority of "The Big Bang Theory" fans are eager to find out just what happens to Sheldon Cooper and Amy Farrah Fowler's relationship following their break-up during the season eight finale, there is quite a number of fans who are also curious to find out whether or not Leonard Hofstadter and Penny finally make it to Las Vegas and got married.

According to Cinema Blend, there is no guaranteeing that Leonard and Amy have indeed tied the knot, but the ninth season of the CBS comedy will pick up just a few hours after the couple was seen riding the car on the way to Sin City, and a male actor in his fifties has been hired for the season premiere, so he might just be Leonard and Penny's minister.

Reports also reveal that they will "get close" to tying the knot, meaning that they might be holding out their actual wedding for a better scenario.

Before they decided to drive to Vegas, Leonard and Penny were worried that they might upset their friends Howard, Raj, Bernadette, Amy if they get married without them knowing, but talking to Sheldon convinced them to just take the plunge.

Leonard and Penny have had a rocky relationship right from the very start. Since she moved in next door, Leonard developed a huge crush on Penny, but Penny was oblivious to his feelings and kept on dating other guys, including comic book store owner Stuart.

Leonard even tried dating other girls after his unsuccessful attempts with Penny, and they included fellow scientist Leslie Winkle, physician Stephanie Barnett, Dr. Elizabeth Plimpton, and Raj's younger sister Priya.

As for Penny, she has dated a string of no-name guys, but one guy her friends really liked to make fun of was the dim-witted Kurt. She was also married prior to her engagement to Leonard with her ex boyfriend Zack Johnson, but they were able to get annulled.

When they finally got together, Leonard made several attempts to propose to Penny, but she turned him down every time. She finally changed her mind in the episode entitled "The Gorilla Dissolution," when she went down on her knees and proposed to Leonard. As expected, he said yes.

Throughout season eight, the two remained engaged without any clear signs of when they will get married or where, and it was only when Sheldon confronted them during the season finale that they decided to get hitched in Vegas.
