Fans can look forward to a strong and out-of-the-ordinary storyline when it comes to Morgan's role in ‘The Walking Dead’ season six. The transition of Lennie James’ character from a tough zombie slayer to an amiable wanderer could be explored through the use of flashback scenes in the upcoming season.
James recently opened up about details of his character's role in the brand new season of AMC’s hit zombie drama series; he shared that fans can anticipate the events that could have led to how Morgan ended up on the path to peace.
"There's a big question to answer about Morgan, both about the show but also for me in the playing of him," James said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. "There's a couple of dots to be joined that we haven't gotten to yet in the playing of him. So I'm kind of exploring that."
The English actor also steered the conversation to the time that he and the ‘Walking Dead’ cast members opened up about season six at the San Diego Comic-Con.
"Sometimes, the most incendiary thing you can do is take a position of peace - and Morgan on one level is going to stir things up by taking a passive position,” James explained. “As I said in the [2015 TWD Comic-Con panel], that's going to fly in the face of a few people's ideas of how you survive in this present world, and he's going to offer possibly an alternative that isn't exactly going to land in the way he hopes or expects it to land."
The "few people" that the ‘Colombiana’ actor are referring to could include Rick, who is expected to have a power struggle and a conflict of beliefs with Morgan in the sixth season. Such difficulty is evident in ‘The Walking Dead’ season six trailer unveiled at Comic-Con.
Following the announcement of the upcoming season’s premiere date, the panel introduced a brand new trailer which gave fans a first glimpse of the upcoming season.
The four-minute footage shows a large group of walkers getting into Alexandria while Rick struggles with Morgan despite reuniting with one of his first pals since the zombie apocalypse broke out.
Having problems with the former sheriff deputy leading the group, Morgan seemingly teams up with Deanna, played by Tovah Feldshuh, to convince the Alexandria residents to turn against Rick.
"Things might not be as they seem," Gimple teased about what the Comic-Con trailer really says about season six. He added that the new installment would give fans a look at numerous flashbacks, including an entire episode of memories, which might refer to Morgan’s whereabouts after separating from Rick in the first season.
AMC’s ‘The Walking Dead’ season six is set for a premiere on Oct. 11, Sunday.
