Game creator Rovio Entertainment has just released the official sequel of its "Angry Birds" mobile game series.
"Angry Birds 2" can be downloaded for free for iOS and Android devices through iTunes and Google Play.
Although the first game for iOS first came out in 2009, it took the developer almost six years before it was able to release a sequel to "Angry Birds." During that period, Rovio treated mobile gamers to various spin-off titles such as "Angry Birds Seasons," "Angry Birds Rio," "Angry Birds Space," "Angry Birds Star Wars" and "Angry Birds Transformers."
As noted by Game Spot, the game play of "Angry Birds 2" still remains the same. Like previous titles, the main objective is to destroy the pigs using birds launched from a giant slingshot.
For the sequel, however, Rovio has added a new boss system. Although these bosses still look like the other pigs, they are more resilient. Aside from being able to take in more damage, some would require gamers to strategize their attacks in order to completely destroy them.
Also, in "Angry Birds 2," the amount of ammunition or birds that players have are displayed in the form of cards. When they use these up, they can either wait for the game to replenish them or purchase more using in-game currency, which are gems. They can also use real-world cash to buy more cards, special spells and other in-game items.
As for its visual quality, PC World reported that "Angry Birds 2" has better graphics than previous titles from the series. It also features moving animations in the background.
Also, for the sequel, Rovio added a map similar to the one featured in "Candy Crush" games to show players the different levels and stages.
According to Niklas Hed, the co-founder of the development studio, the enhancements and new features in "Angry Birds 2" were added in order to provide a different game play experience to gamers.
"With 'Angry Birds 2' we wanted to bring a level of expressive depth and detail seen previously only in a console game or animated series - and create a new game that kids and adults alike won't be able to put down," he said according to Attack of the Fanboy.
"'Angry Birds 2' doubles down on the core tenets of the original that our fans loved: destruction and more destruction," the game's creative director Patrick Lau added.
"Angry Birds 2" is now available as a free-to-play game app for mobile devices. Although the game itself is free, it contains in-app purchases that require real-world currency.
