Sony has just teased a feature of an upcoming Xperia device scheduled to be unveiled on August 3.
Although the model of the device was not mentioned, various sources suggest that it could be the Xperia C5 Ultra.
In a tweet by Sony, the company posted a close-up photo of water droplets hitting a puddle. The company then hinted that the image was captured using a device with split-second photo capabilities.
According to Android Authority, the ability to take split-second snapshots could mean that Sony's upcoming device may be equipped with the company's high-end Exmor RS IMX230 sensor.
This piece of hardware has a 21-megapixel resolution and is capable of capturing 4K videos at 30 frames per second (fps). It can also record slow-motion clips at 120fps with 720p resolution
In addition, the sensor is equipped with 192 point phase detection autofocus which allows camera modules to track and capture images with high accuracy.
Since Sony's recent tweet came with the #Xperia tag, the company might actually be referring to the Xperia C5 Ultra. After all, various leaks and rumors about the device have been surfacing over the past few days. The company also mentioned the date August 3 in the tweet, which could point to the device's official launch.
Recently, the user guide for the device leaked online and revealed that the Xperia C5 Ultra will sport a bezel-less design. Other rumors suggest that it will feature a 5.5-inch full HD display with 1080p resolution.
The device will reportedly be powered by the MT6752 chipset from Mediatek and will pack 2GB of RAM. It will also have 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded using a microSD card.
Some sources said that the both the front and back cameras of the device will be 13-megapixel shooters. However, others reported that it will house a 13-megapixel main camera paired with a 5-megapixel selfie shooter.
Recently, the image of the device's prototype was revealed online by Brazil's Sao Paolo police department. According to Android Community, the law enforcers got their hands on the device after arresting the man who stole it.
It was reported stolen on July 17 during a certification forum which then prompted authorities to setup a sting operation to apprehend the suspect. The police officers pretended to be buyers of the Xperia C5 Ultra prototype and coordinated with the thief through Facebook.
After a successfully operation, the law enforcers were able to retrieve the device and arrest the suspect. But, instead of valuing the device at $893, which is its market price, they estimated it at $12 million based on its estimated cost.
