At some point, Nicolas Cage was being considered for the role of Clark Kent, better known as Superman, but that movie which would have been directed by Tim Burton never materialized, and the face that people associate the character with nowadays belongs to Henry Cavill, who portrayed him in "Man of Steel," and will do so again in the upcoming DC movie "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."

Speaking to Yahoo! Movies, Cage said that he has no regrets about not being able to portray the superhero, and he'd much rather leave it to fans to envision what might have been.

"The only thing I'll say about that - because that is such a lightning rod hot topic and if I say anything at all it just seems to snowball  - but I will say that I had great belief in that movie and in what Tim Burton's vision was going to be for that movie," he said. "I would've loved to have seen it, but I feel that in many ways, it was sort of a win/win because of the power of the imagination. I think people can actually see the movie in their minds now and imagine it and in many ways that might resonate more deeply than the finished project."

Cage cannot seem to stop raving about Burton, who is also known for his collaborations with another Hollywood star, Johnny Depp, and their movies such as "Edward Scissorhands," "Alice in Wonderland," and "Sweeney Todd," among many others. He will be working next on Disney's live action movie "Dumbo."

"Tim is the total artist, a pure artist with a real vision, and I've often said that he can create worlds and that's exactly what he does. I saw some of the tests of different characters and costumes for Krypton and they were just so surreal and so magical and beautiful. He's definitely one of my favorite filmmakers because of his originality, because of his vision," said Cage.

Cage can be seen next in Oliver Stone's biopic called "Snowden," which would star Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Edward Snowden. The actor said that he will cameo in the movie, and he agreed to it because he is a good friend of the director.

"I like his incredibly provocative and entertaining dramatic style, with very relevant and topical events. The Snowden story has fascinated me ever since it broke. I have to give you the full disclosure that I'm only in it for a couple of scenes, but I wanted to be a part of it," he said.

Cage will be playing Snowden's teacher and someone who was working with him in the CIA and trying to guide him.
