What could possibly be the successor of Motorola's Moto 360 smartwatch has just appeared on the database of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission.

According to FCC's listing, the device has just received its certification and is currently undergoing testing procedures.

The device was given the FCC ID code IHDT6UA1. According to its description, the device is a smartwatch sent by Motorola Mobility for testing. The listing also revealed that it supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, Droid Life reported.

The FCC, however, did not release renderings of the mysterious devices but various sources assumed that it is the next variant of the Moto 360, which was officially released by Motorola in September of last year.

According to NDTV, leaked images of the Moto 360 2 or Moto 360 2nd Gen revealed that the upcoming device will still feature the same circular face design seen on its predecessor. Its screen will have better resolution at 360x360 pixels and will be encircled by thin bezels.

Also, the images showed that the smartwatch will have removable bands, suggesting that the next iteration of the Moto 360 will feature physical customization options.

Tech Radar noted that it will be powered by the ARM v7 processor instead of its predecessor's TI OMAP 3 chipset.

As to when the public can expect to see the new Moto 360 smartwatch, Forbes reported that it might be unveiled sometime in September. After all, even though Motorola launched its new devices such as the Moto G 2015, Moto X Play and Moto X Style during an event on July 28, no news regarding the smartwatch was heard from the company.

Because of this, the news site speculated that Motorola might be targeting this year's IFA event in September as the main venue for the debut of the new Moto 360 device.

But, according to Yang Yuanging, the CEO of Motorola's owner Lenovo, the successor of the smartwatch might arrive in summer, possibly in August.

"We have many new models in development with Moto brands," he told The Telegraph in May. "So you may see in summer us launching some very exciting products, including phones and watches."

However, since these details are still based on speculations and predictions, there is still no way of telling exactly when the Moto 360 2 will be introduced by the company. Also, Motorola has not yet mentioned the exact specifications of its upcoming smartwatch model.
