A tipster leaked that LG is already working on the successor of its LG G Flex 2.
According to the leak, the South Korean tech firm is targeting to launch the LG G Flex 3 phablet in March of next year.
LG's G Flex 2, which sports a curved body design and a flexible display, only came out in January of this year. For its successor, it seems the company is aiming to equip it with better and upgraded specs.
As reported by MobiPicker, an anonymous source said that the G Flex 3 will come with a bigger screen at 6 inches. It will also have a 2K resolution.
The device is also expected to feature a 20.7-megapixel rear camera paired with an 8-megapixel front shooter. This is a significant upgrade considering the G Flex 2 came with a 13 and 2-megapixel camera configuration.
It will come with 32GB of internal storage which can be expanded through a microSD card. The device's body will most probably employ the same curved design and will be made from metallic materials.
The tipster also noted that the upcoming device will also have a fingerprint scanner, a security feature that is already becoming a key component in flagship handsets.
As for its processor, LG may power the device with the Snapdragon 820 processor from Qualcomm. This does not come as a surprise since most major tech firms are already targeting to equip their devices slated to launch in 2016 with the same processor model.
Despite sharing the same feature with its rivals, LG's decision to go with the Snapdragon 820 for the G Flex 3 can be good for the company. For one, this processor model is already being as a next-gen chipset that can significantly enhance the performance of smartphones.
Also, even though chip-maker Qualcomm was targeted by critics due to the overheating issues that plagued its Snapdragon 810, tech analysts believe this won't happen with the processor's successor.
According to Kevin Wang, the research director of HIS Technology China, the Snapdragon 820 features key components that can maintain the temperature of the processor, Phone Arena reported.
He explained that the chip's 14nm process system and four custom cores are designed to prevent overheating problems.
However, it's still a bit early to confirm if the LG G Flex 3 will come with the Snapdragon 820 or if it will feature the specs listed by the tipster. So for now, these details regarding LG's upcoming phablet device are only based on rumors and speculations.
