T-Mobile has officially rolled out the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for the HTC One M9.
According to the update's changelog posted on T-Mobile's support page, the firmware upgrade comes with various enhancements as well as a new security feature for HTC's current flagship handset.
The update was released by the network carrier on July 27. However, like in other roll outs, the update may not reach all T-Mobile HTC One M9 owners at the same time as it is being conducted in stages. But as noted by the carrier, the update will be available until August 20.
The firmware upgrade can be downloaded as an over-the-air file and has a size of 833MB. Users can expect to receive a notification regarding the update's availability, but they can also manually check it by heading over to the Settings menu and tapping the About option.
Since it is an OTA file, users must make user that their devices are connected to a secure and stable Wi-Fi network. They must also check that their handsets have at least 50 percent battery power to ensure that the download and installation processes do not get interrupted.
After successfully getting the software upgrade, users might notice that their One M9 devices have been updated to firmware version 2.7.531.6.
The latest version of the Lollipop OS for T-Mobile's HTC One M9 comes with a variety of new features. One of these is the pre-installed Google Wallet app, Google's mobile and online-based money transfer service.
The update also comes with a new feature that improves the life and overall performance of the One M9's battery pack.
Another major feature of the Android 5.1 Lollipop update is its Anti-Theft mode. According to T-Mobile, users can activate this mode by linking their devices to their Google accounts and setting up a password, PIN or lock pattern-protected screen lock.
Once activated, the feature will prevent thieves and other unauthorized users from carrying out a factory reset on the device. This security feature will only be deactivated once the owner disables his or her screen lock or Google account.
A few weeks before T-Mobile rolled out the Android 5.1 Lollipop for the One M9, HTC released a different firmware update for the flagship device, according to Android Authority.
The update, which upgraded the software's version to 1.40.401.5, was designed to improve the device's battery life and camera settings as well as fix its overheating issues.
