After DreamWorks Animations’ ‘How to Train Your Dragon 2’ made an outstanding performance at the global box office and bagged multiple awards and nominations this year, director Dean DeBlois opened up about his future plans for his fire-breathing character in the trilogy’s final installment.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, DeBlois has shared that he has already worked on the script for for the third ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ film.

“It continues to track Hiccup’s coming of age, but it’s also equally shared now that Hiccup and Toothless are chiefs of their clans,” DeBlois explained. “The story also follows Toothless’ storyline, and I think audiences will like that because they seem to respond well to Toothless’ antics and what seems to be going on in his head.”

Speculations have now claimed that ‘How to Train Your Dragon 3’ will shed light on another aspect of Hiccup’s life as he is portrayed to be a much more mature character in the final installment.

Subsequently, it has been rumored that Jay Baruchel, the voice behind Hiccup, could be replaced with a more mature-sounding voice actor.

The third installment might also look into the circumstances that started the book series, highlighting the coming-of-age story of Hiccup and Toothless. The duo might also be shown as chieftains of their own tribes, and viewers might get to see the two parting ways.

Previously, DeBlois also shared that ‘How to Train Your Dragon 3’ will not necessarily follow the story where the second one left off. Rather, it will jump back and forth in different time settings, showing the story of Hiccup within different periods in his life.

In addition, the 44-year-old helmer mentioned that the upcoming third film will be his last one to direct. Putting forward the trilogy emphasizes “Hiccup’s coming of age” and how his story ends.

“If the ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ world leads to more sequels, I think it will be in a creatively different direction,” the Canadian director said. “It’s a possibility but not something that I’m currently developing.”

So far, IMDB has listed only a number of characters for ‘How to Train Your Dragon 3;’ these include Hiccup, his romantic interest Astrid Hofferson, the walking dragon encyclopedia Fishlegs Ingerman, Gobber the Belch and antagonist Drago Bludvist.

‘How to Train Your Dragon 3’ has been set to hit cinemas on June 29, 2018.
