AT&T has decided to stop the roll out of the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for Motorola's Moto X First Gen handset.

Although the network carrier did not explain the reason behind the suspension, it mentioned that it is currently fixing certain issues with the update, 9to5Google reported.

AT&T officially unveiled the 5.1 version of the Lollipop OS for the Moto X First Gen or 2013 edition on July 7. Since the update upgrades the handset's firmware from the stock Android 4.2 Jelly Bean to the Lollipop, it comes with various new improvements and features such as the Material Design.

In addition, Motorola noted that the Lollipop update comes with guest mode support which will provide calling and texting privileges to other users of the device. It also has a battery saver mode, customizable notification settings and an enhanced device protection feature.

The update, which was released as an over-the-air file, was rolled out in stages. This means that not everyone was able to update their device's software at the same time.

However, a couple of weeks after the update was released, AT&T announced that it had decided to suspend the roll out.

"Effective July 20, 2015, the Android 5.1 (Lollipop) software update for the Moto X (XT1058) has been temporarily suspended," the carrier wrote on its support page.

"We apologize for any inconvenience and are working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible," AT&T continued.

The company did not go into detail regarding the suspension of the update's release. However, based on AT&T's announcement, it seems the company encountered certain bugs or issues with the Android 5.1 Lollipop for the Moto X 2013.

The carrier also did not provide a projected date as to when the update's roll out will resume. Hopefully, AT&T will be able to resolve the matter within the next few days in order to continue the update's release.

Motorola's first generation Moto X smartphone officially came out in August of 2013. It sports a 4.7-inch diagonal display with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels. It is powered by the Snapdragon S4 Pro processor from Qualcomm and packs 2GB of RAM. It comes with either 16, 32 or 64GB of non-expandable internal storage.

The Moto X 2013 houses a 10-megapixel main camera and a 2-megapixel front shooter.

The model's out-of-the-box unit, which came with the Jelly Bean OS, had never received a major firmware update until this month.
