In an earlier report by Coming Soon, director Feig revealed the inspiration for the all-female cast of "Ghostbusters." He shared, "I like to ask, 'What haven't I seen women in that would be a cool role for them to play?'" Feig added, "Ghostbusters kind of just came about because they were talking to me about doing the sequel and I just couldn't figure out how to do it. You have to carry over something that started 25 years ago and you have an already-established mythology."
Revealing that he was initially stumped on figuring out a way to revitalize the decades old franchise, Feig shared that the idea of creating an all-female team of "Ghostbusters" eventually presented itself when he decided to work with the two things that inspired his artistry: "busting ghosts" and "funny women."
"Ghostbusters" will hit the big screen on July 22, 2016.
