Why Did Cody Simpson and Gigi Hadid Break Up? Who Is His "Next Girl?"

Singer Cody Simpson and model Gigi Hadid called it quits after a year of on and off relationships. Simpson said that the two are cool and hung out together with friends on Wednesday, July 15. While Hadid’s representative announced the reason for their break up in May 2015, Simpson shared his side of the story to E! News.

“I’m 18 years old, and I’m sort of going through that time in my life where I’m like a different person every week. You know, when you’re going through the phases of being young and discovering yourself and uncovering all the layers, basically,” said Simpson in an interview with E! News.

Simpson said that it can get kind of annoying when hanging out with celebrities. He explained that it is because he does not “hang out with celebs” on a “daily basis” and that all of his close friends are “normal dudes.” Whenever he hangs out with an A-list singer like Selena Gomez, “everyone thinks that’s what it’s all about.”

He said that he likes being “low-key,” because he has been able to focus on his music and hobbies. The singer is working on film, photography, and is also spending time skateboarding more. He said that being single “freed up space” for him to be himself, instead of being a girl’s other half.

“They love each other dearly and have split up in hopes that growing on their own paths will bring them together in the future. They remain friends with no hard feelings and each other’s biggest supporters,” said Hadid’s representative in May.

In “New Problems,” Simpson sings that he has “a new girl with some new problems.” He talks about his previous relationship and the reason why he went “out the door.” A few months after releasing the single, he really did break up with his girlfriend Hadid.

Since then, Hadid has moved on to dating singer Joe Jonas. Simpson has also been spotted hanging out with model Carmella Rose. Simpson and Rose were spotted shopping together in West Hollywood on Wednesday, July 8. They were walking, but Simpson was holding onto his skateboard.

Rose and Simpson were also seen together at Bootsy Bellows in Hollywood on Sunday, July 5 after a day of hanging out at the beach on Independence Day. Rose and Simpson are the same age.
