Local network carrier U.S. Cellular has just released the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for its Samsung Galaxy S4 handset.
The update for the device comes with new improvements and enhancements including the new Material Design from Google.
The update for the carrier's Galaxy S4 went live earlier this week but as seen in previous roll outs, it is being conducted in stages. This means not all Galaxy S4 users of U.S. Cellular will receive the update at the same time.
But for those who have already received the notification regarding the update's availability, they can either download it as an over-the-air file or through Samsung Kies, according to Tech Times.
For those who wish to download the OTA, they should first make sure that their devices have enough battery power. They should also backup their data on the device and check if they are connected to a secure Wi-Fi network. The download and installation processes also require that users have a registered Google account.
To begin, users should head over to the Settings menu and tap on About Device. From there, they should go to Software updates and click on OK to bring up the on-screen instructions. Users should simply follow these guidelines to install the Android 5.0 Lollipop update to their devices.
Getting it through Samsung Kies, on the other hand, requires users to install the program on their computers. They should then connect their Galaxy S4 device to the computer using a USB cable.
In the Samsung Kies program, they'll be notified regarding the status of the update through the Basic Information tab. Selecting the Firmware Upgrade option will prompt the on-screen instructions.
Just like in the OTA update, those who will get the OS upgrade through Samsung Kies should backup their data before initiating the download and installation procedures.
Once the update has been successfully installed, users will notice various major changes in their devices. For one, since the Galaxy S4 came with the stock Android 4.4.2 Jelly Bean OS, the new system will come with the new Material Design made by Google for the Lollipop.
This includes a brighter and more colorful appearance, better animations and customizable themes.
Also, as noted by U.S. Cellular, the jump from Jelly Bean to the Lollipop will offer users more options regarding the settings of the notifications. For instance, through the update, they'll be able to respond notifications directly from the locked screen.
The latest update also comes with multi-user support and better security features.
