As a way to end the issue surrounding the overheating issues caused by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 processor, an executive from HTC said that the company's current flagship device is already running on the improved version of the chipset.
This clearly means that the OnePlus 2 is not the only device using the version 2.1 of the Snapdragon 810.
Earlier this year, the HTC One M9 was targeted by critics after it was revealed through benchmark tests that its processor caused temperature-related problems. LG's G Flex 2 also received the same negative attention after it came out in January because of its Snapdragon 810 chipset.
Qualcomm then issued a statement to clarify that the devices used in the tests were running with unreleased software. The company also noted that it had already released an improved version of the Snapdragon 810 in the form of the v2.1.
Then, through a tweet which seems to be in response to OnePlus' previous announcements regarding its upcoming 2 handset, Jeff Gordon, the senior global online communications manager of HTC, clarified that the One M9 and probably other new devices are currently equipped with the latest version of the chip, according to 9to5Google.
"It's interesting that some OEMs (original equipment manufacturer) are positioning use of the Snapdragon 810 v2.1 processor as a product differentiator vs v2.0," he tweeted.
"The truth, according to what Qualcomm tells me, is virtually all OEMs who've announced devices with Snapdragon 810 are currently using v2.1," Gordon continued."
As noted by Phandroid, it seems Gordon's comments are directed toward the features of the upcoming OnePlus 2.
In a series of announcements made by OnePlus regarding the 2, the company boasted that it had collaborated with Qualcomm to ensure that the Snapdragon v2.1 will run perfectly with its next flagship handset.
Treating it like a selling point, OnePlus noted that the 2 will not have overheating problems unlike other devices that came with the older version of the Snapdragon 810.
"We worked very closely with Qualcomm's engineers to integrate an improved version of the chipset (v2.1) in the OnePlus 2, and fine-tuned both hardware and software," OnePlus said in its forum page. "The 2 will be 'cooler than ever.'"
But based on Gordon's tweets, there is not much difference between the OnePlus 2 and other current smartphones since they are all equipped with the same processor model.
Aside from the HTC One M9, various sources reported that Sony has equipped its Xperia Z4 and Xperia Z3+ with the same v2.1 Snapdragon 810 chipset.
