After the sixth season of ‘Downton Abbey’ was confirmed to be the show’s last run, fans have questioned what might become of the well-loved cast, including Michelle Dockery who bagged three consecutive Emmy nominations for portraying Lady Mary Crawley.
This week, it was announced that Dockery will be moving on from her ‘Downton’ role to a leading character in the TNT drama ‘Good Behavior.’
The upcoming drama series will be drawn out from the Letty Dobesh series by Blake Crouch, who also penned the ‘Wayward Pines’ trilogy. Dockery signs on to the TV project as Dobesh- an attractive criminal who is fresh out of prison and begins robbing luxury hotels in North Carolina.
In one of her break-ins, she overhears an assassin being appointed to kill a man’s wife; Dockery’s character sets out to disrupt the job, which results to a series of shocking and dangerous events for the young woman.
Meanwhile, Dockery’s co-star Dame Maggie Smith, who plays Violet Crawley aka the Dowager Countess of Grantham on the hit show, has already starred in movies, such as ‘Quartet’ and ‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel,’ in between filming for ‘Downton Abbey.’
The legendary actress has already been honored with multiple awards for her performances, and will be making her next appearance in the drama ‘The Lady in the Van’, helmed by Nicholas Hytner and to be released on Nov. 13.
Jessica Brown Findlay, who played Lady Sybil Crawley from seasons one to three, has already bagged several roles in films, such as the fantasy romantic drama ‘Winter’s Tale’, which also stars Colin Farrell and Russell Crowe, and the coming-of-age drama ‘Albatross’ alongside Academy Award nominee Felicity Jones.
The 25-year-old actress is also set to appear in ‘This Beautiful Fantastic’ alongside Tom Wilkinson and Jeremy Irvine.
In addition, Findlay has also signed on to ‘Victor Frankenstein,' which stars Daniel Radcliffe and James McAvoy, as well as ‘Everything Carries Me To You’ directed by Emma Holly Jones.
As for Laura Carmichael, who is well known for playing the bold and brave Lady Edith Crawley, has bagged supporting roles in ‘Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy’ and ‘Madame Bovary.’ The 28-year-old actress is set to take on the leading role in the new indie film ‘Burn Burn Burn.’
Highlighting the success of these female cast members, ‘Downton Abbey’ series creator Julian Fellowes previously opened up about the hit series being strongly illustrative in terms of one of the most important themes in society- women’s independence.
‘Downton Abbey’ is set to return for its sixth and final season later this year, before airing its final Christmas special.
