ZTE unveiled its latest smartphone which will be marketed in the U.S. through a press event held on July 14.
The device, dubbed as the ZTE Axon, is a flagship handset that sports high-end specs.
The Axon from ZTE veers away from the traditional design of other models unveiled by the Chinese smartphone in the U.S. For one, most of the devices launched by the company in the country are budget-friendly and low-spec handsets.
For its latest handset, ZTE says it designed the Axon primarily for U.S. customers. Because of this, the company did not include standard features of smartphones exclusively released in Asia such as dual SIM support. In addition, the Axon for the U.S. market will be an unlocked device.
As for its specs, the ZTE Axon sports a 5.5-inch Quad HD LCD touch screen display with a resolution of 1440x2560 pixels. It houses a 13-megapixel rear shooter with a 2-megapixel sub-camera which can be used to add effects to images and increase autofocus.
The main camera also has a feature that will allow users to refocus a picture after it has been taken. The Verge noted that this feature functions similarly to the DuoCamera of the HTC One M8.
For the Axon's front camera, ZTE equipped it with an 8-megapixel selfie snapper.
Powering the device is Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 chipset and packs 4GB of RAM. However, as noted by PC Mag, previous benchmark tests of this processor model running with unreleased software can cause overheating issues on a device.
In terms of its internal storage, the device is stuck with 32GB since it does not have a slot for a microSD card. The ZTE Axon runs on a 3000mAh non-removable battery and comes with the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS.
The device is now available for pre-orders through ZTE for $449.98 and comes with a free pair of JBL earphones and TPU case. It is expected to debut through online shopping sites such as Amazon, eBay and Newegg on July 27.
ZTE noted that the Axon will also be sold through local carriers in the U.S. and will work on the LTE networks of T-Mobile and AT&T. The device, however, will not work on Verizon and Sprint's networks.
As part of ZTE's services for the smartphone, the company will offer a 2-year warranty for future owners of the Axon. They will also be entitled to a 30-day return period.
