Details of a new smartphone model from Acer have been leaked through the benchmark site GFX Bench.

Based on the leaked information, it seems the Taiwanese tech firm is preparing to launch a selfie-centered handset.

According to the site, the Acer S59 handset will be equipped with a 12-megapixel front-facing camera with a 4160x3120 resolution. Given the camera's high-end setting, it appears the Acer S59 will be marketed to appeal to the selfie-loving crowd.

Also, with this feature, the upcoming smartphone from could become a direct competitor of other selfie-themed handsets. This includes the Zenfone Selfie from Asus, the Desire Eye from HTC and the Canvas Selfie from Micromax.

The main difference, however, between these smartphones and the Acer S59 is that these three variants come with a front-facing flash. But, as detailed in GFX Bench's post, the Acer S59's front camera will have 4K video recording capabilities, another major feature that can attract the attention of selfie lovers.

As for its other specs, GFX Bench listed that the Acer S59 will sport a 5-inch touch screen display with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels. The site noted that the device's screen will have at least 5 finger-gesture support.

It will be powered by the 1.3GHz octa-core MT6753 chipset from MediaTek and will pack 1.9GB of RAM with 11GB of internal storage.

Like its front camera configuration, the Acer S59 will also house a 12-megaixel rear shooter with 4160x3120 resolution. The device's main camera will come with a flash, autofocus, HDR photo and 4K video recording support.

GFX Bench stated that the Acer S59 will only have one SIM card slot. Its connectivity option will be supported by Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth.

Despite the details revealed by the benchmark site, Acer has not yet officially announced the specs of the device or its development.

GSM Arena pointed out although the Taiwanese tech firm has been quiet for the past three months regarding smartphone releases, the company promised that it will unveil a new device in the near future.

Phone Arena speculated that Acer might do so during the upcoming IFA event scheduled in September. Since the IFA Berlin is known as a premium avenue for the introduction of upcoming consumer electronic products, Acer might officially unveil the Acer S59 during the event.

The company will most probably change the name of the handset once it is launched since S59 only refers to the handset's model number.
