The highly anticipated panel of ‘Game of Thrones’ at the 2015 Comic-Con turned out to be a disappointment for fans hoping to dig up new updates on the show's upcoming season six. In particular, all the cast members who had been present at the convention had no idea about Jon Snow’s possible return or any other related tidbit.
Author George R.R. Martin, who penned the ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ book series from which ‘Game of Thrones’ is based, along with showrunners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff decided to miss out on Comic-Con this year.
Moreover, series stars Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Peter Dinklage (Tyrion), Lena Headey (Cersei), Emilia Clarke (Daenerys), and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime) - all the actors HBO reportedly referred to as “a tier”- were absent as well.
Cast members who filled in for them included Maisie Williams (Arya Stark), Natalie Dormer (Margaery Tyrell), Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy/Reek) and Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) along with Conleth Hill (Varys), John Bradley West(Samwell Tarly), Hannah Murray (Gilly), Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth), Liam Cunningham (Ser Davos Seaworth) and Carice Van Houten (Melisandre).
Due to the fact that these major characters were not around, no new updates about the upcoming season was teased at the event.
"We've always tried to maintain a level of surprise for people who watch the show," Game of Thrones producer Carolyn Strauss explained.
Panel host Seth Myers reportedly joked that, as a big fan of the HBO series, he also tried to rake in answers from the cast backstage but failed. "And I'm kind of famous," he lightheartedly said.
Audience members attempted to extract some spoilers from the actors who were present about Jon Snow’s fate. They simply tried to avoid the questions relating to the fan-favorite character.
Aside from keeping possible Jon Snow-related plans a secret, the cast members apparently have not read the upcoming scripts, as reported by Vanity Fair.
The last season of the hit fantasy drama program brought on a terrifying shock among fans by killing off Jon Snow, one of the major characters in the series. Because of his untimely death, numerous speculations are being discussed online, suggesting his possible resurrection in season six.
Harington’s appearance at Wimbledon while sporting his Jon Snow hair and stubble together with reports of the actor returning on filming location has further fueled such speculations that the former Night’s Watch Lord Commander could be making an appearance in the sixth season.
