Various sources are speculating that Apple may be preparing to unveil the 2016 edition of the MacBook Air.
Apple will reportedly launch the device along with an updated version of the MacBook Pro as well as new iPad models in October of this year.
This month, Apple offered huge discount deals for many of its laptops including the 2015 versions of the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro as part of its July 4th sale. Master Herald noted that this might be the Cupertino-based tech giant's way of clearing its shelves in preparation for its upcoming products.
Also, another important clue pointing to the October launch of the 2016 MacBook Air is the possible release of Intel's Core M-based Skylake chipset. According to a report by PC World in February, Intel is preparing to debut its latest processor model sometime during the second half of this year.
Aside from overall improvements in terms of graphics quality and performance, the upcoming Skylake chip can provide slim tablets, laptops and other gadgets with powerful processing capabilities and an extended battery life.
Apparently, Apple is waiting for the official release of Intel's Skylake chipset because it wants it to be the processor of the 2016 MacBook Air. Various sources noted that this is one of the main reasons why the company is holding off the release of its upcoming laptop.
As for its features, the upcoming MacBook Air laptop will reportedly come in different versions based on size and storage capabilities.
Venture Capital Post noted that the model will feature 13 and 15-inch variants. The standard 2016 MacBook Air model is expected to pack 128GB is SSD and 4GB of RAM. An upgraded model with 256GB SSD might also be offered by Apple.
The premium variant, on the other hand, will be powered by an Intel Core i7 CPU and will feature 8GB of RAM and 512GB SSD.
If the October launch of the 2016 MacBook Air happens, then the laptop might hit stores sometime in March of next year.
