New images of the Samsung Galaxy A8 smartphone and its specifications have emerged online.
Although Samsung has not yet addressed the rumors about the device, the new leaks suggest that the Galaxy A8 is nearing its official release.
According to Phone Arena, the Chinese tech site PC Online was able to obtain the images of the Galaxy A8. Based on its design, the front side of the rumored handset appears similar to that of Samsung's current flagship device, the Galaxy S6.
Despite its similar design, the Galaxy A8 is bigger than the Galaxy S6 in terms of height and width, which is at 158mm and 76.77mm respectively. However, when it comes to thickness, the Galaxy A8 might be the thinnest smartphone from Samsung to date. At 5.94mm, it's certainly slimmer than the Galaxy S6.
Its specs, on the other hand, suggest that the Galaxy A8 will not be marketed as a high-end device. The handset is expected to come with a 5.7-Inch super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080x1920 pixels.
It will be powered by the Snapdragon 615 chipset from Qualcomm. The device will pack 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal memory which can be expanded using a microSD card.
For its camera configurations, the Galaxy A8 will house a 16-megapixel main snapper and a 5-megapixel front shooter.
Although it will not be released as a flagship device, the Galaxy A8 will come with a fingerprint scanner. Like in the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, this security feature will reportedly be integrated in the device's home button.
According to Chinese online shopping site Suning Tesco, which is already accepting pre-orders for the Galaxy A8, the device will be released on July 17 in China. There are no details yet as to when the handset will debut in other regions.
However, users should keep in mind that these details are only based on rumors and leaks since Samsung has not yet released an official statement regarding the status of the Galaxy A8.
