Samsung has confirmed that users of its two major devices in the U.K. will not receive the Android Lollipop update.

According to the South Korean tech giant, the U.K. version of the Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 will not get a major firmware upgrade.

The two devices both came out in 2012 but despite their age, these models served as one of Samsung's major releases. As noted by Mobile Burn, the specs and popularity of the Galaxy S3 helped catapult the company's status in the consumer device industry. Through this handset, Samsung was seen as a strong competitor against Apple.

But even though these two are highly regarded in Samsung's history, it seems the company has no plans to update their operating systems. This was confirmed by a tweet from Samsung Mobile UK in response to a query from a Twitter user.

"We don't like to give out bad news Rohan but the Note 2 and the Galaxy S3 won't be receiving the Lollipop update," the company posted.

Since the Galaxy S3' official release, it has jumped from its stock Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich OS to the Android 4.4 KitKat. The Galaxy Note 2, on the other hand, came with the Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean before being updated to the Android 4.4.2 KitKat.

The latest news regarding the status of the Android Lollipop update for Samsung's older devices seem to contradict the announcements made by the company's other divisions.

In February of this year, Samsung's division in Poland announced that it is preparing on releasing the Android 5.0 Lollipop for the local users of the Galaxy Note 2. Also, Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 users residing in Denmark were promised that they will receive a Lollipop update, according to Tech Radar.

However, Samsung did not provide specific release dates as to when the update will arrive in these regions. Hopefully, Samsung will release an official statement to clarify the confusing details surrounding the Lollipop update for the two devices.
