OnePlus confirmed that its upcoming flagship device, the 2, will come with an LPDDR4 RAM.
With 4GB of RAM, the Chinese smartphone maker said the handset will have a more efficient performance than its One device.
OnePlus explained that the RAM is responsible for handling the background operations of devices, such as running apps and games. Through the LPDDR4, the company claimed that the 2 will have faster loading times and smoother operations compared to the OnePlus One, which features 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM.
In addition, through this version, OnePlus said the 2 will be more energy efficient than its predecessor. Due to its low power consumption feature, the LPDDR4 will provide the 2 with a longer battery life than the One.
"The RAM of the OnePlus 2 uses a lower operating voltage than its predecessor, decreasing from 1.2V to 1.1V," the company wrote in the OnePlus forum site. "And with speeds up to 32GB [per second], it is also twice as fast as the LPDDR3."
"It offers optimal support for power-saving low frequency mode that brings clock speeds down when performing those everyday and necessary tasks," OnePlus added.
Based on previous leaks, the OnePlus 2 with 4GB of RAM seems to be the second variant of the upcoming brand-carrier handset. Earlier this month, GSM Arena reported that three versions of the 2 were spotted in a benchmark listing.
According to the site, two of the models, the OnePlus 2 A2001 and OnePlus 2 A2003, are base models that will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor. The former will have 3GB of RAM while the latter will pack 4GB of RAM.
Details of the third model or the A2005, on the other hand, were not revealed. GSM Arena speculated that this may be the premium variant of the OnePlus 2 and might come with the biggest internal storage.
The OnePlus 2 is set to be unveiled on July 27 through a special virtual reality presentation. The company previously confirmed that the 2 will have a retail price of below $450 once it hits the market.
