The return of Sting in the WWE universe undoubtedly thrilled a lot of fans and followers of the franchise as well as fueled the rumors regarding the possibility of having some of the biggest names in the industry back in the ring once again. One of the most widely anticipated wrestler who fans clamor to stage a comeback is none other than Stone Cold Steve Austin.
With his recent appearances in the wrestling scene, combined with his controversial by Brock Lesnar's fast talking manager, Paul Heyman, the WWE universe appears to be gearing up for his return. This speculation, however, was straightforwardly shot down by the Austin himself. Despite his clarification that he will no longer be seen in the ring, fans of Stone Cold will still be able to watch him in action as he is the new cover star of WWE 2K16, according to MTV.
Speaking with MTV, the pro wrestler immediately said that he feels "honored" to have been chosen as the face of WWE 2K16. Acknowledging that this title is truly flattering, Austin also noted that his achievements throughout his career, especially during the "Attitude Era," definitely catapulted his status as one of the most bankable stars in the industry. He said, "And being asked got me thinking - and I guess I kind of started looking back at all the things I managed to accomplish in the business."
He then added, "But I think it was testament to a very deep locker room in one the best eras in the business." He continued to say, "All these years later, it is very special and I'm very proud and I was very happy to get the phone call to be the cover star of such a highly-regarded video games franchise."
Meanwhile, fans and followers of the wrestler are relentless to have him in the ring again. Despite their clamor, it looks like Stone Cold is more than content with how he concluded his career in WWE. "I think I've left everything that I've got in the ring," Austin said, referring to the possibility of his comeback in the arena, according to ABC News. He added, "There's no reason to go back in the ring and prove anything. I had to ride off into the sunset a little bit earlier than I'd have liked. But that final match I had at WrestleMania with The Rock was my last match."
