Seattle Seahawks player Russell Wilson dropped a bombshell news to all his fans and followers: he asked his girlfriend, Ciara, that they should not engage in premarital relations while dating. Although this may come as a surprise to majority, especially with the widely known appeal and beauty of the singer, the star quarterback believes that doing so will not only bring them closer with each other but also to God.
Wilson shared this information in an interview with San Diego pastor Miles McPherson, according to Billboard. Speaking to the crowd in Rock Church, the athlete shared that God's message came to him while watching his girlfriend prepare for a performance during her tour. He said, "I'll never forget, she was on tour traveling, and I was looking at her in the mirror. I was sitting in the dressing room, and she was getting ready go, about 15 minutes before going on stage, and she was sitting there and God spoke to me and said 'I need you to lead her.'"
Stunned by this sudden message, Wilson could not help but question whether the timing was right. "I was like, 'Really? Right now?'" he thought then. He added, "(God) goes, 'I want you and need you to lead her.'" As one of the most openly religious man in the NFL, Wilson's response was predictable - he acquiesced to the message and brought up the topic minutes before her girlfriend takes on the stage. He recalled, "So I told her right then and there, what would you do if we took all that extra stuff off the table and just did it Jesus' way?"
Initially hesitant to spell it out for the crowd, Wilson was eventually pushed into bluntly clarifying that the "extra stuff" was indeed sex, according to Seattlepi. He said, "We're talking about sex." He went on to say, "For me, I knew that God brought me into her life to bless her and for her to bless me and to bless so many people with the impact that she has; that I have." As for Ciara's response, the singer "completely agreed" with Wilson's offer. He shared, "Could we love each other without that? If you can really love somebody without that, then you can really love somebody."
While the decision to hold out on the intimacy elevated the level of respect everyone has for both Wilson and Ciara, the Seahawks star was quick to point out that neither of them is perfect. "We're not gonna be perfect by any means," Wilson admitted. He added, "Life's not perfect. Nobody's perfect, but he's anointed both of us and I know that he's calling for us to do something miraculous, something special."
Wilson and Ciara have been dating since April. Prior to their relationship, the quarterback had been married to Ashton Meem, his high school sweetheart. They ended their marriage in April 2014. Meanwhile, Ciara, whose real name is Ciara Princess Harris, was engaged to be married to rapper Future but the duo broke off their relationship in August 2014.
