Prior to its official release, ‘Scream Queens’ has already been deemed as one of the most popular new shows for Fall 2015. Series creator Ryan Murphy continues to develop his TV empire following the commercial success of the hit FX series ‘American Horror Story’.
Murphy previously explained that ‘Scream Queens’, in which Emma Roberts takes on the leading character, stands as a much more different series than ‘American Horror Story’ due to the fact that the upcoming program has been set up for network television as well as offers a lighter vibe and a comedy element in its first season.
Moreover, the violence is expected to be toned down for ‘Scream Queens’ as compared to the more gruesome and disturbing scenes in the ‘American Horror Story’ anthology.
However, this does not necessarily suggest that the new series will not have its own share of terrors and thrills.
Murphy also mentioned that, among the 25 cast members who will be playing a featured role in the show’s first season, only four of these individuals will survive.
Similar to ‘American Horror Story,’ ‘Scream Queens’ will have a new location and follow a new story for every season. However, the new FOX series will welcome recurring characters who survive from one season of the series to the next.
“…Like a sorority is a horror genre to me, it’s a place where there were horror movies in the ’80s like Sorority Row — and they will go on,” Murphy said. “That’s the format of the show.”
‘Scream Queens’ makes its debut on Sept. 22 with a special two-hour premiere; through the first pisode, Murphy promises that the action and havoc will immediately kick into high gear.
The series creator also mentioned about an important clue in the first episode in relation to the identity of the ‘Red Devil Killer’, who is known for stalking sorority girls in the campus.
“In the first episode, you’ve met the killer and there’s a big clue dropped in the first episode as to who the killer is, so you’d have to go back and really watch it,” Murphy revealed.
Interestingly, ‘Scream Queens’ is said to acknowledge a number of classic horror movies, such as ‘Halloween’ and ‘Friday the 13th.’
Aside from Roberts, other cast members of the upcoming FOX series include Jamie Lee Curtis (‘Freaky Friday’), Lea Michele (‘Glee’), Abigail Breslin (‘Zombieland’), Nasim Pedrad (‘Despicable Me 2’), Oliver Hudson (‘Nashville’), Skyler Samuels (‘American Horror Story: Coven’), Keke Palmer (‘Ice Age: Continental Drift’), Diego Bonita (‘Rock of Ages’), Glen Powell (‘The Expendables 3’), Lucien Laviscount (“Episodes”), Niecy Nash (‘Getting On’), music artist and actor Nick Jonas (‘Kingdom’) as well as Grammy Award nominee and actress Ariana Grande.
