There were some people who were iffy about the massive fight scene in Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel," where Henry Cavill's Superman and Zod battled it out by flying over concrete buildings and the like, which brought the city to ruin.

Many people thought that it's so unbecoming for a hero to fight a villain without giving any thought to the civilians he has sworn to protect, so now Snyder is defending that fight scene, prior to the release of his next superhero film "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."

"I was surprised because that's the thesis of Superman for me, that you can't just have superheroes knock around and have there be no consequences," Snyder told Entertainment Weekly.

He said that there has always been accountability for superheroes in his films, and this is exactly what "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" aims to do. Ben Affleck, who plays Bruce Wayne also known as Batman says that his character will use Superman's victims to take the superhero down.

"One of the things I liked was Zack's idea of showing accountability and the consequences of violence and seeing that there are real people in those buildings," said Affleck. "And in fact, one of those buildings was Bruce Wayne's building so he knew people who died in that Black Zero event."

Snyder added that there are some moviegoers who have poked fun at other superhero movies since no one ever gets hurt in those films, but that is not the case with Warner Bros.

"That's not us. What is that message? That's it's okay that there's this massive destruction with zero consequence for anyone?" he said.

The filmmaker said that "Watchmen," a 2009 American superhero movie he directed actually tackles that message of consequence too. When Dan (Nite Owl) and Laurie (Silk Specter) got mugged, they beat up the criminals.

"I was like the first guy, I want to show his arm get broken. I want a compound fracture. I don't want it to be clean. I want you to go, 'Oh my God, I guess you're right. If you just beat up a guy in an alley he's not going to just be lying on the ground. It's going to be messy," said Snyder.

Even superheroes were not immune from death in that movie, since the Comedian was murdered right at his own home. At the same time, crime fighters came head to head with each other.
