Hillsong has been well known all around the world for not only its powerful music, such as its most recent hit, “Oceans,” but also for its Bible college and church campuses all over the world. A documentary is also being created about Hillsong’s journey and influence, and recently, Hillsong earned 10 Dove Award nominations. The worship team’s leaders say that in the midst of all of this renown and success, HIllsong has been pursing the purpose of making “Jesus’ name great” more than anything else, according to the band’s leaders.

Autumn Hardman, who is in charge of overseeing the 12 different Hillsong worship teams in Australia, said in a recent interview with the Christian Post that Hillsong’s “motivation as a worship team is first and foremost our love for Jesus, our desire to make His name great, and our desire to see the Gospel spread and shared throughout the earth with the tools of creativity that have been placed in our hands.”

“Our hope would be that we serve Jesus and others with every breath we take, and that we would be good stewards of the responsibility and gifts placed within our hands,” Hardman continued.

Hillsong has also been known to try new things, such as starting an experimental worship band exclusively targeting youth, called Young & Free, and their billboard campaign in New York, which was held in April. The campaign featured videos the words “Jesus” and “No Other Name” looping for an hour on 21 digital billboards in Times Square. The Hillsong Church also does not have conventional church buildings, but holds their worship services in places such as bars or nightclubs. Hillsong Los Angeles has been holding their services at the Belasco Theater, which is well known by LA residents to be a go-to nightclub during the weekends.

Hillsong Church was founded by Pastors Brian and Bobbie Houston in 1983, and has 12 different church campuses all over the world, including Australia, the U.S., Spain, the U.K., France, the Netherlands, Germany, South Africa, and Russia.
