After speculations about the official title for the third ‘Star Trek’ movie, it has been confirmed by director Justin Lin himself that the highly anticipated installment will be titled ‘Star Trek Beyond.’
To give fans a glimpse of the new big screen adventure of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701, Lin took to social media and shared a photo from the set on Instagram, showing off the ‘Star Trek’ delta shield on a certain type of Starfleet uniform.
Although ‘Star Trek Beyond’ began filming last week, two of its stars have already been given the opportunity to sign on for a fourth movie in the franchise.
While Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto could be renegotiating their contracts for the fourth installment, other regular cast members, such as Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin and John Cho, have not yet been asked to sign a new agreement for the upcoming sequel.
Meanwhile, when it comes to filming, Quinto and Saldana recently posted pictures of themselves while on set as they are decked out in full costumes and dressed as their characters.
According to the original James T. Kirk, which is being played by Pine in the new sci-fi franchise series, the journey will focus on exploring “strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.”
Quinto believes that the five-year mission will be incorporated in ‘Star Trek Beyond’ and that there will be certain developments among the characters.
“We're coming up on the 50th anniversary of one of the most iconic sci-fi series in entertainment history so it's inherently an ongoing story,” the 38-year-old actor said.
Writer and actor Simon Pegg previously confirmed that he had developed a fresh new script and that he and co-writer Doug Jung had made a huge effort in finishing up the script under a tight deadline.
"We started again six months before we were due to start shooting, which is insane,” Pegg shared in an interview with Radio Times several weeks ago. "In fact we start shooting in Vancouver in four weeks – and we're only handing in our first draft today."
After directing the last two installments, J.J. Abrams has returned this time as producer for the movie.
Aside from the cast regulars, newcomers Sofia Boutella and Idris Elba have signed on to the third installment with which the ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service’ actress will be up for a mystery role while the ‘Pacific Rim’ actor could be playing a villainous character.
‘Star Trek 3’ is scheduled for an official release on July 8, 2016, two months before the 50th Anniversary of the ‘Star Trek’ franchise.
