It looks like everything is turning sour in terms of the relationship between Donald Trump and NBCUniversal. Days following his "racist" remarks geared towards the issues linked with immigrants from Mexico, the widely popular businessman has been continuously reported to be at the receiving end of criticisms. With the announcement of Univision to discontinue any business relationship with Trump, starting with their decision to no longer air the Miss USA pageant on July 12, it appears that things are just going downhill for the 2016 presidential hopeful.
Taking cue from Univision, the latest update in connection with this issue reveals NBCUniversal's decision to sever its ties with Trump as well. Monday saw the formal announcement of NBC Universal to end their relationship with the business tycoon, citing the "recent derogatory remarks" of Trump as the primary reason for the pronouncement.
"At NBC, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values," disclosed the studio in an official statement to Us Weekly. It added, "Due to the recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBCUniversal is ending its business relationship with Mr. Trump."
While this is undoubtedly a major backlash for Trump's empire, it looks like the offended parties should not expect any apology from the tycoon any time soon. A separate report from Us Weekly, the 69-year-old insisted that "there is nothing to apologize for." He added, "Everything that I said is correct. People are flowing through the borders and we have no idea who they are, where they're coming from. They're not only coming from Mexico, they're coming from all over South America and the world."
Apart from his firm belief that no apologies will be uttered by his camp, Trump also pointed out that the correctness and legality of NBC's decision to terminate any relationship with him will be "determined in court," according to CNN Money.
He said, "If NBC is so weak and so foolish to not understand the serious illegal immigration problem in the United States, coupled with the horrendous and unfair trade deals we are making with Mexico, then their contract violating closure of Miss Universe/Miss USA will be determined in court." Trump even included in his response the issue on Brian Williams, citing that while the network decided to stand by the "lying" journalist, it "won't stand behind people that tell it like it is, as unpleasant as that may be."
Although this issue will undoubtedly affect the financial status of Trump considering his investments in the network, it remains to be seen whether it will even make a dent on his massive net worth.
