Reports are suggesting that HTC is preparing to roll out the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for its Desire 816 smartphone.
Although there are no official release dates yet, Desire 816 owners can expect to get the OS upgrade within the next few weeks since HTC has started updating its other devices to the Android 5.1 Lollipop, according to Master Herald.
The Desire 816 is HTC's mid-range smartphone that came out in 2014. It sports a 5.5-inch LCD display with a screen resolution of 1280x720 pixels. It is powered by the Snapdragon 400 processor from Qualcomm and packs 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage.
Its out-of-the-box unit came with the Android 4.4.2 KitKat. In April of this year, HTC upgraded the device's OS to the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop.
There are no details yet regarding the features of the Android 5.1 Lollipop for the Desire 816. However, it is expected to come with HTC's Sense 7 UI. Aside from the Desire 816, the same update is also expected to arrive for the Desire Eye.
Although HTC has not yet released the official Android 5.1 Lollipop for the Desire 816, various users have already experienced running the device on this OS version.
Back in March, developers released a CyangoneMod OS for the Desire 816 based on the Android 5.1 Lollipop. The firmware update, dubbed as the CM12.1, is a custom ROM that comes with the same features as the Lollipop OS, Android Geeks reported.
At the time of its release, the developers noted that the firmware update was only a test version and might come with minor bugs and glitches.
But for users who were able to try out the CM12.1, they said that it ran smoothly on their Desire 816 devices. Although they encountered certain issues, they reported that the firmware update was stable enough to use every day.
