The specifications of Sony's upcoming device were revealed by two benchmark sites.
Based on its details, the handset will be a compact smartphone designed for the selfie-loving market.
According to the information obtained by the Xperia Blog from GFXBench and GeekBench, the Sony handset, with model number E5663, will come with a 4.6-inch display. Despite its small size, the device's screen will have an impressive resolution setting at 1920x1080 pixels.
For its camera features, the Sony E5663 will have a 20-megapixel rear shooter with autofocus, face detection, touch focus and HDR photo features. The front side of the device, on the other hand, will sport a 12-megapixel camera.
Android Authority noted that given Sony's previous products, which were equipped with 5-megapixel cameras, the upcoming device might be one of the company's handsets to have a large front snapper that's perfect for taking selfies.
As for its other specs, the mysterious device will run on the Android 5.0 Lollipop OS. It will be powered by the octa-core 1.9GHz MT 6795 processor from MediaTek and will feature Imagination Technologies' PowerVR Rogue G6200 GPU.
The device will pack 2.5GB of RAM and 11GB of internal storage. It is not yet clear if the handset's built-in storage can be expanded through a microSD card.
Its other features will include an accelerometer, compass, GPS, light sensor and NFC. The device will only have single SIM support and will provide Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity options.
As for its availability, the device's model number strongly indicates that Sony might exclusively debut it in the Indian market like the Xperia M4 Aqua and Xperia C4 Dual, which have the model numbers E2363 and E5363 respectively.
In addition, the Sony E5663 recently appeared on Zauba, India's official database site for imported electronic products. Hopefully, Sony will consider launching the upcoming handset to other regions once it officially debuts.
