The unexpected success of "Guardians of the Galaxy" not only bolstered Marvel Studio's reputation as an undisputed blockbuster maker but also cemented the reputation of Chris Pratt as one of Hollywood's most bankable stars today. Unsurprisingly, a sequel to the widely popular film is now in the works and James Gunn, the director of "Guardians of the Galaxy 2," discloses that the next movie will tug on the heartstrings.
"I think it's a more emotional movie," Gunn said (via Collider) when asked about the sequel during the 41st Annual Saturn Awards in Burbank, according to Cinema Blend. He added, "It's both a bigger movie and a smaller movie because we focus more intensely on some of the characters."
Gunn went on to reveal that the second film will delve deeper into the relationship of children with their parents, placing more emphasis on the fathers. He said, "We learn a lot about fathers in the second movie and I think we focus a lot on that."
It could be recalled that Pratt's character, Star Lord, dealt with issues regarding his paternity on the first film. While "Guardians of the Galaxy" featured the star's mother in the first minutes of the movie, any detail alluding to the identity of his father remained absent. In fact, some fans even speculate that Pratt's character might only be half human. This hypothesis came into light when viewers attempted to look for clues in the film and came up with some subtle references made by the aliens that "adopted" the young Star Lord.
Meanwhile, the father-related theme of "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" might prove to be truly heartwarming as even the star himself, Pratt, admitted to getting emotional over it. In an earlier interview with Digital Spy, the "Jurassic World" actor shared his reaction upon reading the plot for the sequel of "Guardians of the Galaxy."
"I will say that (James Gunn's) pitch and his idea legitimately put tears in my eyes," said Pratt, whose net worth skyrocketed following his casting as the unconventional superhero. He added, "It is so good, it's so good. And I cannot wait to get started on it and I cannot wait for people to see what he's going to pull off with the second movie. It's so, so big and so good."
Apart from disclosing some details with respect to the plot of "Guardians of the Galaxy 2," Gunn also shared some potential spoilers in terms of the music to be played in the sequel. He revealed, "We haven't listened to 'Awesome Mix 2,' yet, so we get to hear it in the sequel," according to The Inquistr.
"Guardians of the Galaxy 2" will hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
