2K Sports announced that the special edition of the upcoming "NBA 2K16" will feature the iconic NBA superstar, Michael Jordan.
The athlete himself also confirmed that he will be a playable character in the next installment of the "NBA 2K" series.
According to the game publisher's post on its Instagram account, the "NBA 2K16" Special Edition will include Jordan memorabilia and various in-game content.
Aside from featuring the basketball star as a cover athlete, the special edition will come with a Jordan "NBA 2K16" poster and a Jordan Fathead wall cling. As for in-game bonuses, these include virtual Jordan shoes, shirt and jersey that are accessible in the MyPlayer mode and 30,000 virtual currency. Gamers will also receive 3 Emerald packs and an exclusive Moments Card for the game's MyTeam VIP+.
2K Sports noted that like the regular version of the "NBA 2K16," those who pre-order the special edition will be able to play the game on September 25, four days before its official release.
After the game publisher made the announcement, Jordan also commented on his participation in the upcoming game.
"I'm excited about this year's 'NBA 2k's' Special Edition," he said in a press release according to gaming site Polygon. "'NBA 2K16' allows gamers young and old to not only experience and re-create some of my greatest moments on the basketball court but also customize their players with Jordan shoes and apparel."
According to a spokesperson from 2K Sports, Jordan's statements refer to his playable character in the game. It doesn't mean, however, that the upcoming game will feature the same Jordan Challenge mode of "NBA 2K11."
Jordan's participation in "NBA 2K16" marks his third appearance in the "NBA 2K" series. The Chicago Bulls star first graced the cover of the game franchise in 2010 with the release of "NBA 2K11." He then returned as the cover athlete for "NBA 2K12" along with Magic Johnson and Larry Bird.
