Fourteen HouseGuests compete to win $500,000 by living inside a house under constant video surveillance. ‘Big Brother’ is a reality television game competition in which contestants live together for months without communication to the outside world. Season 17 Episode 1 premiered on Wednesday, June 24 on CBS. The season premiere will be a two-night launch. Episode 2 airs on Thursday, June 25. The show is hosted by Julie Chen.
In Season 17, the HouseGuests reside in a custom-built modern steel beach house designed by Scott Storey. The contestants cannot return to the house if they leave without permission. The contestants of the show can be evicted from the house for losing or breaking the house rules.
"Okay everyone, here I am inside the #BB17 house ... get ready for @CBSBigBrother!" tweeted Chen on Wednesday.
Chen also shared a photo of herself holding two thumbs up while wearing a long black tank dress and a wide smile. The photo offered a sneak peak look at the inside of the house's living room. The room had wooden floors and walls. It was decorated with a blue patterned rug and gray sofa. A large black camera installed on an upper corner of one wall was seen in the photo.
HouseGuests will participate in weekly competitions to determine who will be the Head of Household. Features of the show include Power of Veto, a series of games that require skills and Food & Luxury, which punishes losers of challenges with cold showers and a Big Brother Slop diet.
Season 17 ends on September 23. The HouseGuests will live in the house for 98 days, the longest period of time in the history of the American version of the series. Subscribed viewers have access to livefeeds of the show. The series got its name from George Orwell’s 1949 novel Nineteen Eighty-Four.
