With the increasing number of drama shows on TV, it could be quite challenging to stand out. However, it appears that the TV adaptation of Diana Gabaldon's "Outlander" has no such problem as the series continues to dominate the small screen. While various aspects could be pointed out as the potential reasons for the show's continuing success, it is no secret that the remarkable acting chops of the series lead actor, Sam Heughan, is considered as a major factor.
Heughan, who plays the Scottish gentleman Jamie Fraser, is well aware of his character's development throughout the season. While women are typically categorized as victims of physical and sexual abuse, "Outlander" Season 1 showed Jamie at the receiving end of such situation. If fans and followers of the show think that the emotional rollercoaster brought about by the gripping episodes of the TV series will die down soon enough, then they are in for a surprise as Heughan reveals that the next season will be "bigger and better" than the previous one.
"We've gone to France as we basically pick up the story where Jamie and Claire have gone to stop the build up to Culloden and the Jacobite rebellion," Heughan shares, referring to the direction the show will be taking for Season 2, according to Daily Record UK. He adds, "There is definitely a hangover from season one with events that happened in the finale but it feels like a very new world. We are introduced to Paris and new characters that are in the books, it's like an alien world almost for the characters to fit into."
Apart from these spoilers, Heughan discloses that the fans and followers of the show should look forward to the set for "Outlander" Season 2. "Last year the sets were magnificent but this year it is even bigger and better," the actor shares. He goes on to say, "We are also going to shoot location work in Prague and dare I say it we are also shooting in England."
The upcoming season is clearly a testament to the success of "Outlanders" Season 1. Asked during an interview with Variety on his experience filming the show and his reaction to the legions of followers they managed to amass in just one season, Heughan admits that he is "very proud of it" and describes the series' fans as "terrific." The actor also describes one of the most intense scenes of the season - the prison cell episode with Black Jack Randall, played by Tobias Menzies, as "pretty epic."
"The writing was terrific," Heughan says, referring to the development of the series and the cast members. He adds, "To get a character that goes there and it's not just washed over - it's gonna change Jamie; he's a different person now - and I think that's the beauty of our show, that it's always moving forward. The relationship we saw start [between Claire and Jamie] at the wedding is completely different to the one we have now, and I think that's what a modern relationship is like, and hopefully that will keep developing."
